The Midland Great Western Hotel, (Later to become The Great Southern Hotel Mulranny and now the Park Inn Mulranny), first opened its doors in the late 1800’s as a Resort Hotel to cater for the many tourists and travelers using the train to travel to resorts such as Mulranny & Achill. It was then Part of a chain of Hotels which were in the ownership of the Railway Company, with hotels at locations such as Galway, Bundoran, Sligo, Killarney & Parknasilla. All of the above hotels were developed along the same lines as Mulranny, with view providing rest & relaxation for the weary traveler.
The Hotel at Mulranny prospered for many years and its spectacular location featured high in its successful market attributes. It boasts many famous guests including John Lennon and Yoko Ono who visited in June 1968 with colleagues from Radio Caroline.
Having fallen into a derelict state the hotel and adjoining 42 acres was purchased by the present owners Tom & Kathleen O’Keefe in 2003. Retaining much of the character and charm of the original building, the completely refurbished and extended hotel now combines the very best from the past with contemporary comfort and style.
In addition to the Hotel 20 apartments have been built adjacent to the hotel in five two-storey blocks.
